MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.


Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.


The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.


Mr George said "a number of little businesses in Cornwall currently make money from utilized cooking oil".


He added: "In order to be able to get this kind of industry going it does require just a bit of lift which comes in the type of tax foregone."


Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
